Small Towns Big Ideas

Small Towns Big Ideas is a Galway 2020 flagship programme. It celebrates ‘Meitheal’ – the ancient Irish tradition of coming together for a common purpose, working together to ensure that all succeed in achieving a goal.

There are a total of 51 Small Towns Big Ideas Projects that span Galway City and County.

Small Towns Big Ideas was designed by Galway 2020 in response to the absolute need to recognise and celebrate the diversity and richness of Galway, its places, its people and its rich culture in both urban and rural settings.

The huge potential for Small Towns Big Ideas to mobilise local communities and artists was also clearly demonstrated in the three Small Towns Big Ideas Pilot Projects that were developed by local communities in Athenry, Ballygar and Headford during the bid process.
