Cast FAQ's

Question: When will I be rehearsing?

There will be a mixture of town specific and all-town group practices. The timetable and venues for these will be announced on Saturday 30 November.

The practice rehearsals will run on either Friday evenings, Saturdays or Sundays from Friday 6 to Sunday 22 December. There won’t be any rehearsals during the Christmas and New Year period and they will then resume at the weekends from Friday 3 January to Sunday 2 February.

 

Question: What time will I be rehearsing?

The timetable for all rehearsals will be announced on Saturday 30 November.

 

Question: Is there a minimum age to be involved?

Yes, participants must be aged 18 years or over.

 

Question: Where are the town specific rehearsals being held?

The town specific rehearsals will be in:

  • Clifden
  • Spiddal
  • Tuam
  • Ballinasloe
  • Portumna
  • Athenry
  • Galway

Rehearsal venue addresses in each of the towns will be announced at the kick-off event on Saturday 30 November and afterwards through the Galway 2020 website.

 

Question: What if I am not from the towns specified?

Not to worry, you can still join! Just choose the nearest town you would like to join on the registration page.

 

Question: Where are the all-town group practices being held?

We will be holding all the All-Town group practices in Galway city, the venue will be announced shortly. Our support staff will be on hand at each event.

 

Question: What are the all-town group practices?

The all-town group practices will bring together all the casting groups from the seven towns into one place at the same time to rehearse the show together.  All participants from the town events will take part in the finale in Galway city on Saturday 8 February.

 

Question: Will I need earplugs?

If you are sensitive to noise, we recommend you bring some earplugs with you as there will be percussionists playing. Earplugs can be bought at your local hardware store or pharmacy.

 

Question: How do I get there?

Rehearsal venues will be announced on Saturday 30 November.

You will need to make your own way to the rehearsals.

For the dress rehearsals and opening ceremony, transport will be arranged from your participating town.

 

Question: Will there be parking at the rehearsal venues?

Question: How do I get into the rehearsal venue?

Organisers will be on hand on the day to show you into the venue. When you arrive, please make your way to the main entrance.

 

Question: How long does each rehearsal last?

The duration of the rehearsal depends on the casting group you are in and the commitment required for that group.

Please refer to the table for an approximate commitment breakdown per casting group.

Question: What if I can’t make a rehearsal?

We have carefully organised each rehearsal to ensure we make them as accessible as possible for participants, rehearsals are not on a fixed day or time so everyone can make the maximum amount of rehearsals.

Please let a member of staff know at the rehearsal if you are unable to make a specific rehearsal.

 

Question: Help! I’ve picked the wrong town; can I change my preference?

Question: What should I bring to kick-off Event on Saturday 30 November?

Please bring a printed copy or digital copy (phone or tablet) of your email confirmation as we will use this to register you for the event.

Please also bring one form of photo ID with you. This can be in the form of your driver’s licence, provisional licence or passport.

Yes, you can!

Question: My friend wants to join but is too nervous – can they watch a rehearsal?

You will not be able to watch a rehearsal unless you register, but tell your friend to sign up anyway.

If you don’t want to perform, we have lots of supporting roles behind the scenes which we will need help with.  So click on “Not sure yet, I just want to be a part of it” on the registration page.

 

Question: I don’t want to be a performer – is there any other way I can be involved?

Question: Can I come on my own?

You sure can. There will be plenty of new faces to meet at the rehearsals and it’s a great way to build community in your neighbourhood.  You will have fun.

 

Question: Something came up and I can no longer be part of the show – what do I do?

If you can no longer be a part of the event, please write to casting@galway2020.ie or inform a member of the team at your next rehearsal.

 

Question: What should I bring to rehearsals?

You will be signed in at each rehearsal.  For the first town rehearsal only, please bring with you a printed copy or digital copy (phone or tablet) of your email invitation and one form of photo ID with you. This can be in the form of your driver’s licence, provisional licence or passport.

There will be percussionists at the rehearsal so please bring earplugs, if required.

 

Question: What should I wear to the rehearsals?

Wear clothing and shoes that are comfortable and that you can move around in easily; it’s not going to be a gym class but there will be some activity, so you need to wear something you can sit, stand and walk in comfortably.

 

Question: Will there be any refreshments at the rehearsals?

Yes. Light refreshments will be provided.

You are welcome to bring your own snacks (except any snacks containing nuts) with you to rehearsals and please dispose of the packaging responsibly.

 

Question: What skills do I need?

All abilities are welcome.

 

Question: Can I join later in the programme?

Yes, you can. However, you may not get your first choice as roles will be filled on a first come, first served basis, so sign up as soon as you can.

 

Question: How much time will I need to commit outside rehearsals?

If you have a part that requires practicing, we encourage you to practice at home as much as you would like until you feel comfortable with the piece. Practice makes perfect.
