Galway 2020, Merlin Woods Collective in association with Friends of Merlin Woods present Am I Nature, a Small Towns Big Ideas Project
Am I Nature is a mockumentary told through the eyes of the Merlin Woods Wildlife.
COVID – 19 has caused us all to reassess our behaviour and attitudes. Am I Nature is a creative assessment and response to the ever-changing landscape of woods, public parks and human behaviour toward nature during lockdown phases. Set on the grounds of Merlin Woods Animals will conduct a human transect charting; increased footfall, the use of habitat, and the habits of new and existing wood users.
Celebrating another resurgence of nature as restrictions lifted with the mass-influx of humans in all their forms: peacocking prom-saunters, tunnel vision joggers and cyclists, families finally with time, exhausted dogs with their walkers, defeated new-puppy owners, inspiration-seeking artists, mindful meditative strollers, the new gardeners and of course the hungry nature enthusiasts.
Am I Nature poses important questions – how has the lockdown been positive for nature, wildlife, and people? And with the return to ‘normality’ will the positive impact have a lasting effect?
Am I Nature is created by Merlin Woods Collective in conjunction with Friends of Merlin Woods, local artists and members of the community.
Audience numbers and community participants will be determined in line with government guidelines.
A pre-recorded performance will be streamed on social media platforms at the same time as the live event.
Supported by the Galway City Arts Office, Galway City Council and Galway 2020.
