Clay workshops are scheduled to be delivered with students in Claregalway Secondary School in November and December as part of the Clay Journeys project. The artists of Clay Galway are working with community groups in various locations in Galway City and County to create boats out of clay, honouring stories of migration both present-day and historic.
Each of the community groups is working with an artist to explore their individual responses to the Galway 2020 themes of Landscape, Language and Migration.
The boat acts as a symbol, a container of stories and will be released out into the world on March 2021. As the boats disintegrated in water, a symbol for the transience and fragility of our human journey and the fleetingness of time while celebrating the all-encompassing presence of water in the Galway landscape and in the language of clay making.
