This year, join in a celebration of our heritage, language and culture with a modern twist on St. John’s Eve.
Co-produced by Cumann Forbartha Chois Fharraige and Clonbur Community Council, Lóchrann Chonamara is a Galway 2020 Small Towns Big Ideas project featuring fire, music, dance, street theatre and food, all on the site of Maam Cross Livestock Mart.
Local community groups have come together with theatre company Fíbín, contemporary dancer Eoin Mac Donncha and fire performers Pyre Productions to present a spectacular and memorable evening of outdoor entertainment.
The evening will begin with music, and the bonfire will be lit at dusk in a spectacular ceremony. The flame will be carried symbolically across mountains and bogs by members of local walking groups, Cumann Sléibhteoireachta Chonamara Theas, Galway Walking Club, Maamturks Walking Club, the Beanna Beola Hillwalking Club and the Corrib Ramblers from the four corners of Connemara.
This is a free outdoor event and everyone is welcome to attend.
