In 2019 a wild, fun and challenging film project called ‘Shot by the Sea’ was developed under the first round of Galway 2020’s Small Towns Big Ideas programme. Celebrating coastal culture and identity the project engaged with filmmakers across Galway and beyond.
The challenge? Make a short film no longer than 5 minutes that is literally shot by the sea and submit it for entry. That’s it! This is a project for film makers of all levels; from first timers to seasoned filmmakers and everyone in between. Coastal stories, Coastal communities, shot by the coast, screened by the coast.
The second edition of the festival was originally due to be held in April 2020 but like so many events this had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. So Shot By The Sea is going online and will present their very special online edition on 25 February. Tune in from 7.30pm for a selection of short film screenings, discussions with well known film makers and the presentation of Shot By The Sea awards to the winners.
Contributors include Gar O’Brien, Arthur Lappin, Ross Mullan, Ken Harmon, Oisin McCoille, Michael Collins, Francesca Romana di Martini, Brian Nolan, Franco de Peña, John G Walsh, Manchán Mangan, Sarah Dillon and Marilyn Gaughan – Reddan.
