A Look Back at FRESH STREET#3

FRESH STREET#3 – The International Seminar for the development of Street Arts took place in Galway from 22 to 24 May 2019.

Over 200 international delegates from more than 20 countries descended on Galway for three days for this multidimensional event focused on the development and promotion of street arts. They included artists, practitioners, programmers, producers, festival organisers, stakeholders, policymakers, journalists with a professional background in and passion for all things street arts. Over the course of the seminar, delegates debated and explored the event themes of ‘Place and Identity’, themes driven largely by the local and global crisis that the world is experiencing about how we relate, feel and perceive same.

There were many high points, including inspiring opening keynotes, a day trip exploring the spectacular landscape of Inis Oírr, not to mention the packed programme of artistic performances and of course, the explosive closing plenary session which left delegates with much to ponder ahead of FRESH STREET#4 in Turin next year.

FRESH STREET’s journey to Galway started in 2017 when the ISACS Network and Galway 2020 jointly bid against Paris to host FRESH STREET#3, and Galway was selected. This was the first time a FRESH event was held in conjunction with a European Capital of Culture and a proud moment for Galway, considering its great tradition for outdoor spectacle and street arts.
