We will launch our ‘Wave Makers’ volunteer programme on Saturday 16 February in Tribeton, 1-3 Merchant’s Road, Galway from 3pm – 6pm.
Whether you have previous volunteer experience, an appetite to become a volunteer or are just curious about what is involved, Galway 2020 is inviting anybody who is interested in being part of the exciting year to come along and get involved. The minimum age for volunteer registration is 18.
Becoming a volunteer for Galway 2020 is a chance to be a part of a once in a lifetime experience. It will create exciting opportunities to meet new people, learn new skills, experience the events of a European Capital of Culture first-hand and have lots of fun while doing it.
Members of the Galway 2020 team will be on hand at the Wave Makers launch along with a series of guest speakers offering insights and information about the volunteer programme for Galway 2020, how and why you should consider getting involved.
The exciting event will include presentations from:
– Patricia Philbin, CEO Galway 2020
-Ulla Lund, Volunteer Manager, Aarhus, European Capital of Culture 2017
-Josette Borg, Volunteer from Valletta, European Capital of Culture 2018
-Volunteers from Bid Phase, Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture
Speaking ahead of the launch event, Elena Toniato, Volunteer Manager, Galway 2020 said;
“I am excited to be launching our ‘Wave Makers’ volunteer programme. Volunteering, I believe, will allow people from all walks of life the opportunity to get involved in Galway 2020 in a meaningful way. Galway 2020’s Wave Makers will create a positive disruptive energy and help connect our communities in Galway city and county with each other and the wider world”
“Within the programme, which we aspire to be diverse and inclusive, will be a range of exciting roles. These will include stewarding at large scale events, ushering, meeting and greeting, assisting with the box office, merchandising and so much more, offering opportunities for everyone to learn new skills.”
Those who attend the launch event will also be treated to brilliant live music by Galway band My Fellow Sponges from 5.00pm. Finger food will also be served.
Tribeton is an accessible venue and ISL interpretation will be provided at the event.
