Bad Weather Play Day

Hope it Rains | Soineann nó Doineann and Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture present the BAD-WEATHER PLAY DAY. Join us for some serious fun at a free outdoor play day celebrating bad weather!

We are inviting children and families and everyone whose business is play across Galway County and City to join our WeatherPlay project to invent new ways to have fun in the wind and rain – and we’re kicking off with a free day of outdoor play!

There will be lots going on to give you plenty of inspiration for playing outdoors in the wind and rain. We’ll have rain-painting, bad weather bingo, mud kitchens, adventure-play with Venture Out, kite flying, weather wanders, puddle-jumping, build your own water-blaster, and much more!

Learn from play experts, artists and activists about how we can create more outdoor play opportunities for children in Galway. The Right to Risk, join Hilary O’Shaughnessy (Playable City UK), Eimear Dolan and Ann Mallaghan (Galway County Council), Peter Boland (Insurance Reform Ireland), Kerry Walker (Down to Earth Forest School & Forest Therapy Galway) and others in conversation with Hope it Rains | Soineann nó Doineann artistic director Ríonach Ní Néill and Weatherplay artist Michelle Browne.

Patricia Philbin, Chief Executive of Galway 2020 said “We are delighted to be partnering with this project that will effect a change in our relationship with Galway’s weather – that we will celebrate that it rains”.

So get out your wellies and raincoat and… Hope it Rains!
