Gallery: Lóchrann Chonamara

The wet weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the audience at Sunday’s Lóchrann Chonamara event at Maam Cross.

Hundreds braved the rain to celebrate St John’s Eve at this Galway 2020 Small Towns Big Ideas event produced by community groups Cumann Forbartha Chois Fharraige and Clonbur Cloughbrack Pride of Place.

Peacockes Hotel opened its doors and audiences were treated to musical performances from Clann Uí Iarnáin, Don Stiffe,  Ceoltoiri Oga Chois Fharraige  and Cogar Céilí Band.

Performers then led the crowd to the Maam Cross Mart to experience a spectacle, the likes of which have never before been seen at the crossroads. This outdoor performance of fire, dance and music was presented by Pyre Productions and Irish-language theatre company, Fíbín, accompanied by Singer Aimee Banks as the “Goddess of Fire”.
