During Cúirt International Festival of Literature 2020 and throughout the year, the life and legacy of the novelist Eilís Dillon will be celebrated in the city where she grew up.
Best known for Across the Bitter Sea, her big historical novel about the road to Irish independence, Dillon was also a prolific author of children’s books, publishing some 40 of them between 1948 and 1992.
Widely travelled and an innovator in every sense, her first works were published in the Irish language and those and subsequent stories were rooted in the landscape of South Connemara.
During 2020, Cúirt and others in Galway and further afield will hold events to celebrate her life, revisit her writings for both children and adults, and consider the European perspective that Eilís Dillon brought to her work.
Keep an eye on the Cúirt website for further updates.
