Following the guidance issued by the Government of Ireland in relation to new measures to contain Covid-19, Kenny’s Bookshop and Gallery has made the decision to close the gallery and bookshop spaces from 16 March until further notice. This closure means all ongoing and planned exhibitions during the period of closure will be impacted.
Possible rescheduled dates for these exhibitions and events will be explored.
Throughout this special year for Galway, the Kenny Gallery will have a full programme of exhibitions, including sculpture, painting, printmaking and children’s art. The programme will kick off with sculptor John Behan’s Migrants and finish with a flourish of 40 Visual Artists / 40 Writers, an exhibition celebrating Kennys’ 80-year history.
Migrants presents a sensitive and well-rounded body of work formed in response to the artist’s experience accompanying the Irish Navy on a Mediterranean rescue mission.
A painting retrospective of Italian artist Laura Vecchi Ford will follow in March, looking at more than 50 years of hard-edged, surrealist endeavour.
Tom Kenny’s Old Galway in April showcases the gallery director’s visual archive of changing Galway streetscapes, pastimes, fashions and characters across a period of over 150 years.
John Behan 1–29 February
Laura Vecchi Ford 6 March – 2 April
