In 2019 a wild, fun and challenging film project called ‘Shot by the Sea’ was developed under the first round of Galway 2020’s Small Towns Big Ideas programme. Celebrating coastal culture and identity the project engaged with filmmakers across Galway and beyond. Such was the success of the project and its Gala Screening event that the project is back in 2020; bigger and better.
The challenge? Make a short film no longer than 5 minutes that is literally shot by the sea and submit it for entry. That’s it! This is a project for film makers of all levels; from first timers to seasoned filmmakers and everyone in between.
Shot by the Sea 2020 will also reach out to Irish and European coastal towns and communities to invite them to take part in the film making challenge and screening event. Coastal stories, Coastal communities, shot by the coast, screened by the coast.
A wide range of the films will then be selected for our 1-day film festival in Salthill on 26 November. This day-long event will include a special screening for schools, the best of the Galway, Irish and International submissions, and will culminate in our fun filled red carpet Gala Screening and Awards Ceremony where the winners will be announced.
