Story Time Express

Galway 2020 and Galway Public Libraries
DATE March/April 2020
LOCATION Galway County

Hop on board The Schools Public Library Service’s Story Time Express and grab your golden ticket for a journey of magic, mystery and mayhem.

Commencing in May with the very special To The Island tour, author Trish Forde and musicians My Fellow Sponges take to the roads to show us the way to islands, real and imagined. Join Fia as she makes her way to Hy Brazil and sing along to the newly commissioned Galway 2020 song To The Island. The fun won’t stop there. A team of storytellers is being created to visit primary schools in County Galway in October 2020, so watch this space.

This is no ordinary library bus; it opens its doors to the past, the present, the future and provides us with a visual feast of imaginative illustrations, curious characters and shadowy stories.

Allow your imagination to soar and your creativity to flourish as the bus journeys through the highways and byways of County Galway, visiting schools with one of the team who will invite participants to imagine the unimaginable through storytelling, music, magic and make believe. The project will start in March during Seachtain na Gaeilge and continue into April. Various schools throughout the county will be invited to participate in the workshops. This will be organised through the Schools Library Service which has a long association with primary schools in Galway City and County.

The Schools Public Library Service’s diverse programme of taster sessions for Galway 2020 will use multi-disciplinary facilitators who will look at the way the imaginative worlds we visit when reading can help children create, re-imagine, explore, enjoy and enable them to see and experience the lives of others. Arts and culture are an essential part of our belonging – to a community, country, society and humanity itself. Books are windows to the world for children and this project will allow children in various schools throughout the county to get a taste of a creative world that would not be accessible to them otherwise.

Schools will be invited to participate in the project during the months of March and April. A one and a half hour workshop will be offered in a creative discipline suited to a specific age group. The children will be invited onto the school bus and brought into a world of magic, mayhem and mysterious words by the facilitator.
