Tim Robinson’s lovingly detailed maps of Connemara lay at the heart of his artistic practice, and have inspired a generation of cartographers in expressing the Irish landscape.

Sarah Gearty is managing editor of the Irish Historic Towns Atlas project at the RIA, and in this presentation, she takes us from the West of Ireland to Dublin, exploring the evolution of the city’s cartography from John Speed (1610) to the present day. Along the way, she’ll touch on Robinson’s fascination with history and Irish place names and how ultimately the beauty of maps, makes cartography a form of art or literature.

Sarah joins poet and playwright Vincent Woods in conversation.
