International Literature Festival Dublin Presents

Unfolding Maps: Tim Robinson and the Art of Walking

DATE 22 to 28 October
CREDITS Martin Colthorpe, ILFDublin Programme Director

‘While walking the land, I am the pen on the paper…’ Tim Robinson

2020 marked the passing of one of the great laureates of place in Ireland, Tim Robinson. In honour of this extraordinary writer, International Literature Festival Dublin will have a special theme of walking this autumn, bringing the attention and imagination that Robinson brought to his art, to the streets of Dublin.

Best known for his books about the Aran Islands and Connemara, Robinson was a true polymath, training as a mathematician and working as an artist and cartographer. Join us at the festival for a special evening marking his legacy across a range of media, alongside an events series of talks, podcasts and workshops, which explore the mental freedom that walking brings and its symbiotic relationship to writing.

In Unfolding Maps, the legacy of Tim Robinson’s art and writing will act as a compass point in an uncertain world.

Presented by the International Literature Festival Dublin, a Dublin City Council initiative, with kind support by Galway 2020 and IPB.

Programme details to be announced beginning September 2020. Visit
