As Laureate na nÓg (Children’s Laureate), Sarah Crossan has created We Are The Poets, a two-year project inspiring young people to express themselves through poetry and verse.

Commencing in January, Galway 2020, Poetry Ireland, Children’s Books Ireland and GRETB will bring poets working with the Writers in Schools Scheme to post-primary schools across Galway. During this residency period, they will work alongside young people to inspire and help them create poems on the themes of landscape, language and migration.

Poets Elaine Feeney, Luke Mongan, Pete Mullineaux, Geraldine Mills, Máire Holmes, Gerard Hanberry and Jackie MacDonncha will facilitate residencies, and the work of these young Galway poets will be showcased in a countywide series of events and on radio during Poetry Month April 2020.

We are also delighted to welcome Sarah Crossan to Galway on 24 February for a very special encounter with We Are The Poets participants and poets.
